POSITIVE PROTEST!
(Read only the bold, if you’re pressed for time.)
Hi All! I want to do a positive protest on 3/21/26. I want to have seven signs that each have a letter of the word “R” “E” “S” “I” “S” “T” “!”, and a bang*. Next to that, to have a sign that says, “WE CAN HAVE”, and the signs of the folks standing next to that sign, holding signs that each say one positive thing. Democracy; Accountable Media; Affordable Healthcare; etc. Please let me know what your positive sign would say.
R E S I S T ! WE CAN HAVE * DEMOCRACY * AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE * ACCOUNTABLE MEDIA * AFFORDABLE HOUSING —ETC.
I just found out that this is called Performativity, a linguistic quality, when a sentence is also an action. Performativity is the concept that language can function as a form of social action and have the effect of change. I had no idea! Fighting for freedom is a strategic art way older than I am, and I thank those who went before us for that.
Please let me know what you think about that and what you’d like your sign to say. We can have as many signs as there are people to hold them. When it comes time to make these signs, we can work together for uniformity and economy. I want to see how many of you want to do this before I think about making signs or having them made.
March 21 is the Saturday before No Kings, and the first full day of Spring–a day on which one is supposed to be able to stand eggs on end. I think a special protest will set the tone for a hopeful Spring and No Kings, on 3/28/26.
I’m always open to your ideas, so don’t hold back. If you give me an idea I think will work, I’ll run with it, and maybe put you to work! This is our time to work together!
We had 14 people at our protest today, many honks, one fellow who yelled out, “Traitors”, and a gal who called to us with a F___ You!
Bless their hearts!
Bonnie
