Our US soldiers have never before died in the defense of authoritarianism on home soil and the imposition of inequality on “We, The People”*
Hi All! Memorial Day is dedicated to honoring and mourning those who deserve our greatest respect and gratitude, whose suffering and sacrifice we will never really know. Much is written of these heroes and heroines, and rightly so.
We owe them the debt of preserving what they paid so dearly for.
Would it be untoward, on this memorial holiday, to remember that there have also been a significant number of civilian deaths among those providing humanitarian relief and protection in US conflict zones? Those people chose to be in regions where they were in immediate danger and often targeted through direct attacks, ambushes, or perished in crossfire.
It was their immense charity and fierce dedication that drove them to their altruism, one of the greatest virtues anyone could aspire to. We owe them our commitment to resistance.
And, when we look at civilian deaths in armed conflicts in which the America has been engaged, we speakalso about women and children, who are often the most affected demographic in modern conflicts, whose sin was simply to have been there. In the Iraq War, civilian casualties have been reported to be as high as 77% of the total casualties.
Hard numbers are hard to come by, as these victims are nameless to us, subsumed in the floodtide of all the war casualties and deaths in that conflict. We owe them our resistance to victimization.
So, when we hear it said that in the name of Americans, a whole civilization will be wiped out, we understand that not only have US military personnel died, but that the most vulnerable and the most selfless will suffer horrific tragedy. The one who says such things is himself invulnerable. If he feels personally harmed, he sues us for $10 billion.
It may seem a picayune point to mention the rallies scheduled this weekend. But, we are the local marketing arm of resistance to the acceptance of war, its deaths and casualties, and the death of our democracy at the hands of the least worthy and greediest among us.
We had eight patriots at our Friday evening rally. It was a fine evening for all but the bird-flippers, who are not aggrieved by needless deaths and the falsehoods that promote nearly immeasurable corruption and the struggles of Americans everywhere, who pray it won’t get worse. They’re aggrieved by our persistent resistance.
Saturday’s midday rally was canceled for the rain. Still, four stalwarts showed up with umbrellas and signs, ready and willing. We did not get out of our cars, as we do not have to suffer more than necessary for the sins of this regime. There will be next week and the next 22 weeks. There will be 44 rallies before the midterms.
We need you on Fridays. Please come.

*Edited – the first headline, Our US soldiers have never before died in the defense of authoritarianism and the imposition of inequality on “We, The People” was poorly worded. It wasn’t my intention to misrepresent our past interventions on behalf of totalitarian governments, regime changes, Cold War interventions, or our participation in support of undemocratic governments in the 19th century. I have been taken to task, and I apologize.
