When we do better, we’re all better for it.
It won’t be hard to do better than this regime
Hi All! We had a good turnout for the END ICE CAMP protest Saturday. About 30. Something gets into the air when committed folks gather. It’s a rare feeling of community and a cradle of hope for the future, which will come, whether we’re ready or not. Terri made six signs for us. Kudos to Terri!
Think about what you want when we pick up the pieces and start rebuilding
You may think it’s too soon or too optimistic to start planning for this future now, but it’s a back-burner thing, and we have to be ready. Think, dream, and muse about the country you want. Pick a few things from your dream and start to think about how we can achieve them. Begin to form ideas about working with others who can bring these legislative, Constitutional, social, domestic, and foreign policy aims to fruition. That could mean working with groups already aligned and entrenched in working for change in those arenas, or making groups in political clubs and church organizations to bring clarity and possibility to those ideals becoming part of our nation’s future.
Everything we need to do this is available to us. Find it; use it. Determine to make a difference in our future.
This is my list, simmering away at the back of my mind:
Climate action asap
Higher tax rates for corporations
ERA published in the Constitution
Medicare For All
Overturn Citizens United
Term limits
Impeach Roberts and Thomas, and increase the number of judges on SCOTUS
Open primaries
Paid family-member elder caregivers
End gerrymandering
Apportion representation seats in Congress according to population
Standards for media
Make your own list. Don’t think anything is too big an ask. Many things start big and end smaller, becoming more elegant and succinct in their pared-down focus. Avoid throwing away the good for the perfect, but aim high, anyway. Right now, we’re nodding and winking at a blind horse, but he’s going to the glue factory. Then, we’ll saddle up our Donkey, who’s well able to carry the load.
Enjoy the snow! Never give up the ship!
Faint not, fight on!
Bonnie
